          With 60 per cent of the world’s freshwater in transboundary waters, it is crucial for effective international cooperation and an integrated approach to manage shared water resources, especially in areas vulnerable to the impacts of climate change.

          Featuring the IAEA GloWAL network, the Sustained Dialogue on Peaceful Uses, and Morocco, this panel will highlight the growing need for global cooperation and the critical role of nuclear applications in managing transboundary water sources.

          This event will demonstrate how we are better able to address data and knowledge gaps and strengthen water management capacity through global, regional and continental cooperation. This event is organized by the United Kingdom and Morocco.

          Technical Cooperation Meetings

          This annual meeting of the Board of Regional Co-operation Agreement for the Promotion of Nuclear Science and Technology in Latin America and the Caribbean (ARCAL) Representatives will enable discussions to review the achievements of the agreement in 2024 and approve activities for 2025.

          This session will present the mission and global efforts of the Oncidium Foundation to improve access to Targeted Radionuclide therapy (TRT) for people living with cancer, especially in underserved regions. It will showcase collaborations with partners, including the IAEA through the Rays of Hope program and key Belgian players such as IBA, IRE, Pantera & SCK-CEN for radiopharmaceuticals production, and the Jules Bordet Institute for clinical application. Special focus will be placed on expanding access to alpha-therapy.           Discover the 8th European Commission’s Nuclear Illustrative Programme published earlier in 2025. This 8th edition reflects recent developments in EU Member States’ nuclear strategies and low-carbon energy policies, pointing out crucial investment plans and needs.

          Event highlights:

          1. Learn about EU’s energy policy and key decisions shaping the future of nuclear energy in Europe

          2. Explore the main topics of the 2025 Nuclear Illustrative Programme

          3. Exchange on its key findings:

          - Nuclear energy perspectives in the EU, including non-power applications

          - Securing European supply chain for nuclear fuel, installations, and the back end. This event is organized by Euratom.

          The side event will present the European Union’s (EU) and Poland’s policy of promoting gender equality and women's empowerment, which remains an important priority for the EU in all international forums. Since 2020 the EU continues to provide significant support for the IAEA's Marie Sklodowska-Curie Fellowship programme with the aim to strengthen women and young professional participation in careers related to nuclear security. Additionally, this support aims to raise awareness among young professionals about the peaceful uses of nuclear science and technology and to attract them to join this field of work.           The International Project on Innovative Nuclear Reactors and Fuel Cycles (INPRO) is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. INPRO’s accomplishments will be presented with a focus on the last few years that saw the consolidation of INPRO tools into an IAEA advisory service. FRAMES V1.0 will be launched at the side event and the initiation of new activities such as Fossil-to-Nuclear will be discussed. INPRO members will be invited to present their own experiences with INPRO and their plans for future engagements.

          At this event, the Plenary Meeting of FNRBA will address the implementation of the Strategic Plan, elect officers and evaluate the performance of the six Thematic Working Groups of the Forum. This meeting will consolidate the gains made in recent years to advance nuclear and radiological safety and security in Africa.

          The FNRBA Plenary serves as highest decision-making body of the Forum allowing members to provide direction on the regulatory oversight of nuclear and radiological safety and security in Africa with Partners. This event is organized by Ghana.

          Research and development of treatments using medical radioisotopes and nuclear medicine treatments has progressed rapidly in countries around the world in recent years.

          We will confirm the current status of clinical research on Ac-225, which is attracting particular attention, and share the current status of supply-demand matching for Ra-226, which is the raw material for Ac-225, and give a stir to discussions aimed at building win-win relationships with countries around the world. This event is organized by Japan.

          Both the deployment of Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) and Long-Term Operation of legacy NPP fleets requires a resilient, cost-effective supply chain. This side event explores how leveraging serially manufactured industrial-grade components can enhance reliability, reduce procurement complexity, and accelerate SMR deployment. We will examine the latest data and guidance on acceptance processes for industrial-grade components, including Commercial-Grade Dedication. By adopting proven industrial products and a “design for supply chain” philosophy, nuclear projects can improve efficiency while maintaining safety standards. This event is organized by Switzerland.

          Organized Visits

          The IAEA’s new Transportable Electron Beam (e-beam) Accelerator System?is a versatile facility that allows the treatment of liquids, solids and gases. It will be a cornerstone of the Agency’s assistance to Member States in building capacity and in bridging gaps to address the need for cost-effective and accessible e-beam technology (“ebeams4Development”). The system will enable experts to conduct activities that support NUTECPlastics (polymer modification), Atoms4Food (phyto- and sanitary application), ZODIAC (inactivating microorganisms for vaccine production), Atoms4Climate (environmental applications such as wastewater, sludge, odour and greenhouse gases treatments), Atoms4Heritage (preserving heritage artefacts) and more.

          The 40-feet ISO container in Agency blue, housing the main element of the system, will be on display at A-3 level. Experts will brief delegates about its capabilities, operation, safety aspects and the possibilities for loaning the system to Member States for dedicated experiments and demonstration. The system will not be operational while on display at the VIC (i.e. no radiation protection measures are needed).

          This event will celebrate and highlight BMWG’s twenty years of agile and responsive collaboration that has both extended the impact of increasingly constrained resources and brought consistency to approaches, equipment, training, and services. Presentations will feature testimonies from donors, implementers, and recipients spotlighting efficiencies in planning, executing, and evaluating capacity building activities achieved through BMWG coordination. This coordination has evolved to counter the dynamic nuclear smuggling threat, moving from border controls to interior law enforcement operations providing a defense-in-depth approach. The BMWG will also share its vision for combating illicit trafficking in the next twenty years. This event is organized by Euratom.

          Materials used in nuclear reactors face many challenges due to elevated temperature operation, high neutron flux induced transmutations and radiation damage. During the course of the transition from Gen III to Gen IV or fission technologies, the advanced materials and manufacturing technologies will develop cross-cutting technologies in support of current fleet and next-generation advanced nuclear reactor. China will showcase the comprehensive framework conducting design, manufacturing, evaluation and application of materials under national collaborative mechanism. Also, China will unleash the power of artificial intelligence in materials design to accelerate the deployment of advanced materials and manufacturing technologies that have cross-reactor impacts. This event is organized by China.

          There is international consensus that geological repositories can provide the long-term safety and security necessary to isolate long-lived radioactive waste from the human environment over extended timescales. Significant progress has been made in this field in recent years, although many challenges remain. During this event, senior representatives from the regulatory bodies of six countries at the forefront of deep geological repository (DGR) development will provide updates on their national progress. This will be followed by a panel debate, focusing on the role of regulatory bodies. This event is organized by Canada, Finland, France, Sweden, Switzerland and the USA. This event is organized by Sweden.

          This session will highlight Canadian technology breakthroughs and explore how a coordinated Team Canada approach is uniting world-class infrastructure, scientific and clinical expertise, government and industry to advance isotope innovation. Featuring experts from across Canada, this session will demonstrate how Canada is advancing innovation from production to patient delivery and transforming global cancer care. This event is organized by Canada.

          This event will provide a forum for IAEA Member States to discuss challenges related to the development of a sustainable radiation and nuclear safety infrastructure in line with the IAEA safety standards and international good practices. At the event, the Secretariat will provide updates of the efforts to establish and enhance cooperation with other forums and networks. ???

          This event will cover ionizing radiation used in early detection of medical issues such as mammography or lung cancer that is strictly regulated in Germany. The legal authorizations for these screening tests rely on risk-benefit assessments and scientific evaluations by Germany's Federal Office for Radiation Protection (BfS). It will also cover how authorized tests are regularly reviewed and re-evaluated as needed. This event is organized by Germany.

          This side event presents the development and partnership building around the European Nuclear Fuel Performance Code TRANSURANUS, which has become one of the most widespread and applied fuel performance codes worldwide. It is a key instrument for thermal, mechanical and neutron-physical analysis of a fuel rod in nuclear reactors and represents a European success story developed on the basis of scientific excellence and an enhanced partnership with key European and global stakeholders. Over more than 30 years it proved to be highly agile and responsive to emerging challenges as evidenced by recent applications to emerging SMR designs. This event is organized by Euratom.

          The side event will share Kazakhstan's experience in the development of accelerator and radiation technologies: enhancing efficiency and expanding opportunities in science, medicine, and industry.?The event will also share and exchange experiences in creating modern medical, industrial and scientific centres based on accelerator technology.

          Kazakhstan’s Institute of Nuclear Physics, with the support of the IAEA, is developing the production of radiopharmaceuticals and industrial sources of ionizing radiation based on cyclotrons, expanding the use of radiation technologies in industry and the environment based on electron accelerators, and supporting fundamental and applied research based on heavy ion accelerators. This event is organized by Kazakhstan.

          The National Nuclear Center of the Republic of Kazakhstan has being successfully implemented the Project on the Conversion of the research reactors and utilization of highly enriched uranium in Kazakhstan. As part of this initiative, under the cooperation with the US organizations, the National Nuclear Center completed construction of SILO storage in November 2024 at its IVG.1M reactor site. The SILO storage is intended to place their spent highly enriched nuclear fuel of the IVG.1M reactor for long and safe storing after its conversion to low-enriched uranium fuel. The new SILO storage meets all the requirements and safety standards. This event is organized by Kazakhstan.

          2 years into its establishment, the IAEA Anchor Centre (AC) network now unites 12 leading regional institutions advancing cancer care through education and training.?This event showcases Virtual Reality (VR) innovations in radiation medicine education and patient care, featuring inter alia a presentation on the IAEA’s VR-based training tools.

          An Anchor Centre Signing Ceremony at the end of the event highlights the continuing growth of the global AC network.
