          Events and Organized Visits

          The IAEA does not own the content of virtual side events organized by third parties within the margins of the 69th General Conference.           For Side Events with a virtual component held by Member States and the Agency, the responsibility to make the necessary arrangements lies with the event organizers.

           

          Tuesday

          16 September 2025, 13:00 Organized Visits

          The IAEA Archives are a pillar of the IAEA’s institutional memory, spanning over 70 years and comprising over 10 000 shelf metres of hard-copy records and 10 terabytes of data. These walking tours are an opportunity to look behind the scenes to:

          • Experience the size and composition of the IAEA Archives;
          • Interact with some of the treasures in our holdings and be inspired by the Agency’s history;
          • View the Reading Room and an archival repository, and learn about challenges in preservation and access management; and
          • Hear how the Department of Management oversees the IAEA Archives.

          Tours run from 1.00 to 2.00 p.m. daily. For those wishing to attend the tour, registration can be completed online here or in person at the exhibition on the IAEA online archives catalogue, located on the ground floor of the M building.

          16 September 2025, 13:00 Organized Visits

          The Incident and Emergency Centre (IEC) is the global focal point for international preparedness for and response to nuclear or radiological emergencies. The tour will provide participants with an overview of the IEC’s response roles and emergency preparedness and response tools.

          Tours will be offered on Tuesday 16, Wednesday 17 and Thursday 18 September from 1.00 p.m. to 2.00 p.m. The planned duration of each tour is one hour.

          Advance registration is encouraged by sending an email, stating first and family name, affiliation, delegation, email and telephone number. The assembly point is the Information Desk at the entrance to the M building from where participants will be picked up on the respective day at 12.50 p.m.

          16 September 2025, 13:00 Secretariat Side Events

          This side event, led by the Department of Nuclear Sciences and Applications, highlights the IAEA’s education, hands-on training and technical services efforts through its Nuclear Applications Laboratories. These laboratories provide hands-on training in areas such as health, food and agriculture, and environmental monitoring. The session will also present the newly developed Training Catalogue - a comprehensive resource consolidating 61 specialized courses offered at the Austria-based laboratories. Designed to improve access, coordination, and visibility, the catalogue supports Member States in leveraging nuclear science for sustainable development and addresses the growing demand for practical expertise in peaceful nuclear technologies.

          This event will highlight the diverse and innovative applications of nuclear technology in Türkiye, showcasing the country's capacity to leverage nuclear advancements in fields beyond traditional electricity generation. The event aims to not only showcase Türkiye's growing nuclear expertise but also inspire discussions on transformative role of nuclear technology in medicine, agriculture, industrial applications, desalination, and high-tech research. By exploring its diverse applications in healthcare, agriculture, industry, and water desalination, the event will underline the importance of continued nuclear innovation and research for addressing global sustainability challenges. This event is organized by Türkiye.

          16 September 2025, 13:00 Member States Side Events

          The United States of America’s (USA) national nuclear laboratories have long served to create the science and technology fundamental to the development of advanced and small modular reactors SMRs. This event will host the Argonne, Idaho and Oak Ridge National Laboratories in an open discussion of current and future engagements with reactor developers and of combined efforts to create a new generation of advanced reactors. Representatives from industry in the USA will discuss their partnerships with the laboratories to advance technology and nuclear safety. This event is organized by the United States of America.

          This event will be held on Tuesday, 16 September 2025, from 1.00 p.m. to 2.30 p.m. in Conference Room CR1, C Building, second floor.

          16 September 2025, 13:15 Organized Visits

          Visitors to the IAEA’s Isotope Hydrology Laboratory in the VIC will be shown laboratory facilities that support Member States in the application of nuclear and nuclear-related techniques for the isotopic analysis of water samples.

          This tour will include the tritium and noble gas facilities for age dating groundwaters and the laser lab where stable oxygen and hydrogen isotopes are analysed to provide information about the hydrological cycle.

          Tours will be offered on Tuesday 16, Thursday 18, and Friday 19 of the General Conference during the lunch break (13:15 to 14:00). Space is limited to 12 people per tour and therefore registration is required. To sign up for a tour please email and provide your name, affiliation, and the day you wish to visit the lab. Confirmed participants should meet at the Information Desk at the entrance to the M-building 10 minutes before the start of the tour.

          16 September 2025, 13:30 Member States Side Events

          This event is the annual in-person meeting of the Nuclear Regulators for Gender Equity (formerly International Gender Champions Impact Group on Gender Equality in Nuclear Regulatory Agencies), held on the margins of the General Conference. The Impact Group is co-chaired by the IAEA Director General, the Chair of the Authority for Nuclear Safety and Radiation Protection, Ms Annemiek van Bolhuis, and the Chief Executive Officer of the National Nuclear Regulator, Ms Ditebogo Kgomo. This event is organized by the Netherlands.

          This event will be held on Tuesday, 16 September 2025, from 1.30 p.m. to 4.00 p.m. in Conference Room M7, M Building, ground floor.

          16 September 2025, 13:30 Member States Side Events

          This panel will highlight how fusion can provide a sustainable, low-carbon energy source and drive economic growth. We will discuss how countries, including small and medium economies, can get involved in the fusion supply chain and the importance of their participation.

          Topics include the short-term benefits of fusion, such as job creation and industrial opportunities, and long-term strategic opportunities like energy independence and resilience. Discover how every country can contribute to and benefit from the future of fusion energy. This event is organized by the United Kingdom.

          The JRC side event will showcase the European Commission's work on Molten Salt Reactors (MSR), a promising technology connected to Small Modular Reactors (SMR), which offers innovative nuclear energy solutions in terms of operational safety and high-level waste minimization. The Joint Research Centre (JRC) provides independent, science-based technical support for nuclear innovation, safety and safeguards. It has deep expertise in nuclear safety, fuel cycle analysis, fuel chemistry, material testing and reactor physics, all critical areas for MSR deployment. Recent developments and future challenges in MSR fuels will be discussed, highlighting the support and interaction of JRC to stakeholders. This event is organized by Euratom.

          16 September 2025, 14:00 Secretariat Side Events

          Cooperation between a State and the IAEA is essential for effective and efficient safeguards implementation. To support this, Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi launched COMPASS in 2020 to partner with States and help them strengthen the effectiveness of their State Systems of Accounting for and Control of nuclear material (SSACs) and State or Regional Authorities responsible for safeguards (SRAs). Now in year two of the 2024-2026 cycle, current and former COMPASS recipient and donor States will discuss their experience, how the initiative has contributed to sustained national capacity, and the benefits of peer-to-peer learning brokered by COMPASS.

          Recognizing the global trend towards expanding use of nuclear energy, JAEA has formulated recently its new vision that outlines the R&D direction for JAEA to pursue in the future, consisting of three key areas: Synergy, Sustainability, and Ubiquity. Through the realization of this vision, as well as building on the knowledge and expertise accumulated during twenty years since its establishment and taking into account fresh ideas to address emerging challenges, JAEA at the event seeks to share with IAEA member countries, JAEA's contribution activities and innovative insights for the peaceful use of nuclear energy, thereby promoting the mutual cooperation among these countries. This event is organized by Japan.

          16 September 2025, 14:30 Organized Visits

          This event involves a laboratory tour (to be offered on three consecutive days). The tour will showcase the Radiation Safety Technical Services Laboratory, which provides annual monitoring services for external and internal radiation exposure for 3000 occupationally exposed workers. These services are critical to IAEA activities globally. Support services also include training, consultation and the loan of survey equipment.

          Tours will be offered on Tuesday, 16, Wednesday 17 and Thursday 18 September 2025. from 2.30 p.m. to 3.45 p.m.

          With 60 per cent of the world’s freshwater in transboundary waters, it is crucial for effective international cooperation and an integrated approach to manage shared water resources, especially in areas vulnerable to the impacts of climate change.

          Featuring the IAEA GloWAL network, the Sustained Dialogue on Peaceful Uses, and Morocco, this panel will highlight the growing need for global cooperation and the critical role of nuclear applications in managing transboundary water sources.

          This event will demonstrate how we are better able to address data and knowledge gaps and strengthen water management capacity through global, regional and continental cooperation. This event is organized by the United Kingdom and Morocco.

          16 September 2025, 14:30 Technical Cooperation Meetings

          This annual meeting of the Board of Regional Co-operation Agreement for the Promotion of Nuclear Science and Technology in Latin America and the Caribbean (ARCAL) Representatives will enable discussions to review the achievements of the agreement in 2024 and approve activities for 2025.

          This session will present the mission and global efforts of the Oncidium Foundation to improve access to Targeted Radionuclide therapy (TRT) for people living with cancer, especially in underserved regions. It will showcase collaborations with partners, including the IAEA through the Rays of Hope program and key Belgian players such as IBA, IRE, Pantera & SCK-CEN for radiopharmaceuticals production, and the Jules Bordet Institute for clinical application. Special focus will be placed on expanding access to alpha-therapy. These joint efforts aim to bridge the gap between innovation and accessibility, ensuring that advanced cancer treatments reach those who need them. This event is organized by Belgium.

          This side event examines how industrial standardisation, shared technical standards and mutual regulatory recognition – illustrated by the EPR experience – can secure supply, derisk fabrication and accelerate delivery of long-lead equipment. By qualifying equipment once and reusing evidence globally, stakeholders can unlock repeatability, trust, and efficiency across borders. Utilities, supply chain leaders and regulators will share practical lessons on qualifying components once and reusing the evidence worldwide, fostering trust, transparency and industrial efficiency. Delegations from embarking and expanding nuclear programmes will gain pragmatic insights into streamlining procurement, boosting capacity, and accelerating project delivery through smarter, shared standards. This event is organized by France.

          At this event, through the experience of Paris 2024 Olympic Games, France will provide an in-depth exploration of its expertise in securing major public events. Speakers from French National Police and the French Atomic Energy Commission will provide insights on the general context and challenges faced to secure such a major event, on steps undertaken to develop and implement the nuclear security measures and deploy appropriate equipment and finally lessons learned, and best practices will be shared. The IAEA will present its contribution on the cooperation in the field of major public events pertaining to nuclear security. This event is organized by France.

          Discover the 8th European Commission’s Nuclear Illustrative Programme published earlier in 2025. This 8th edition reflects recent developments in EU Member States’ nuclear strategies and low-carbon energy policies, pointing out crucial investment plans and needs.

          Event highlights:

          1. Learn about EU’s energy policy and key decisions shaping the future of nuclear energy in Europe

          2. Explore the main topics of the 2025 Nuclear Illustrative Programme

          3. Exchange on its key findings:

          - Nuclear energy perspectives in the EU, including non-power applications

          - Securing European supply chain for nuclear fuel, installations, and the back end. This event is organized by Euratom.

          The side event will present the European Union’s (EU) and Poland’s policy of promoting gender equality and women's empowerment, which remains an important priority for the EU in all international forums. Since 2020 the EU continues to provide significant support for the IAEA's Marie Sklodowska-Curie Fellowship programme with the aim to strengthen women and young professional participation in careers related to nuclear security. Additionally, this support aims to raise awareness among young professionals about the peaceful uses of nuclear science and technology and to attract them to join this field of work. This event is organized by Euratom.

          The International Project on Innovative Nuclear Reactors and Fuel Cycles (INPRO) is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. INPRO’s accomplishments will be presented with a focus on the last few years that saw the consolidation of INPRO tools into an IAEA advisory service. INPRO members will be invited to present their own experiences with INPRO and their plans for future engagements.
