Molten Salt Reactors, a Promising Path for Nuclear Energy – Joint Research Centre's Contributions and Future Directions
Member States Side Events
The JRC side event will showcase the European Commission's work on Molten Salt Reactors (MSR), a promising technology connected to Small Modular Reactors (SMR), which offers innovative nuclear energy solutions in terms of operational safety and high-level waste minimization. The Joint Research Centre (JRC) provides independent, science-based technical support for nuclear innovation, safety and safeguards. It has deep expertise in nuclear safety, fuel cycle analysis, fuel chemistry, material testing and reactor physics, all critical areas for MSR deployment. Recent developments and future challenges in MSR fuels will be discussed, highlighting the support and interaction of JRC to stakeholders. This event is organized by Euratom.
This event will be held on Tuesday, 16 September 2025, from 1.30 p.m. to 2.30 p.m. in Conference Room M6, M Building, ground floor.
