          Description

In general, a graded approach means a structured method by which the stringency of control to be applied to a product or process is commensurate with the risk associated with a loss of control. This publication presents an overview of grading fundamentals, the grading process, the role of classification in the process and the typical controls that can be graded. It provides practical guidance and examples of grading as required by IAEA Safety Standards Series No. GS-R-3 to develop and apply a method of grading appropriate to the organization. The information provided will be beneficial to users who are in the process of implementing or improving their current management system based on the IAEA safety requirements.
