IAEA Experts to Visit Fukushima Daiichi Site, Review Japan's Decommissioning Plans
An IAEA expert team will visit Japan this month at the request of the Japanese government to review the efforts and plans to decommission TEPCO's Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station.

Planning for the unthinkable, "accident State" Morocco and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) have prepared a two-day emergency exercise starting on 20 November 2013 during which the response to a dirty bomb explosion will be assessed. Fifty-eight States and 10 international organizations will test their national and international preparedness to respond to a radiological emergency triggered by nuclear security event. The exercise, codenamed Bab Al Maghrib marks the first time such scenario is exercised on such a large and international scale.

Mitigating the climate change in the energy sector will be the focus of a side event on 18 November 2013 at the global climate change conference currently under way in Warsaw. An International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) expert will lead the panel discussion on the Economics of Mitigation: Energy Sector, Global Trade, and International Maritime Transport. The event will also feature speakers from the World Trade Organization, the International Maritime Organization, Poland's Ministry of Economy, and the International Chamber of Shipping.

"We reviewed with Ambassador Najafi, the head of the new Iran negotiation team, what was discussed in the previous talks.
"We had constructive discussions on the different issues, and we agreed to meet again on the 28th of October, when we will start substantial discussions on the way forward to resolve all outstanding issues."

IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano will host a ceremony to inaugurate the IAEA's new Nuclear Material Laboratory at the Agency's Seibersdorf facility on Monday, 23 September 2013, at 14:30.
The laboratory is an essential component of the Agency's safeguards activities, as it analyses material sampled by safeguards inspectors from nuclear fuel cycle processes. The new building, which began construction in 2011, replaces an aging building which no longer meets the needs of the IAEA.

The International Atomic Energy Agency and the European Commission will today sign a Memorandum of Understanding on Nuclear Safety, establishing a framework for cooperation to help improve nuclear safety.
IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano and European Commissioner for Energy Günther Oettinger will sign the Memorandum at 15:00 in the M02 foyer of the M-Building of the Vienna International Centre (VIC). There will be a photo opportunity for the signing, and both officials will offer short statements, but time constraints mean they will be unable to take questions.
