          Description

          It is well recognized among organizations responsible for emergency management that good preparedness in advance of any emergency will substantially improve the emergency response.

          Previous experience shows that many first responders are not familiar with matters related to radiological emergencies including the basics of ionizing radiation, assessing the radiological hazards, as well as responder and public protection guidelines. Therefore, it is important that first responders increase their level of preparedness by receiving training on how to respond to nuclear and radiological emergencies, be it safety or security related.

          The purpose of this webinar is to provide training on the concepts and goals of emergency preparedness and response, with emphasis on the first response in the case of a radiological emergency irrespective of its cause. Participants will also have the opportunity to increase awareness of the IAEA’s role in enhancing preparedness of the Member States to respond to radiological emergencies, be it safety or security related.

          The objectives of the Webinar are:

          • To raise awareness on the concepts of first response to nuclear and radiological emergencies and the EPR-First Responders Manual;
          • To present information about the basic hazards and goals of first response;
          • To discuss some previous radiological emergencies and lessons learned.

          The webinar is open to first response organizations in Arabic-speaking countries with responsibilities in preparing for and responding to a nuclear or radiological emergency, be it safety or security related, at various levels (local, regional, national).
