          Lise Meitner Programme

          Lise Meitner Programme professional visit in Australia (hosted by the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation)

          Dates: 8 February to 20 February 2026 (including travel days)

          Focus: Nuclear medicine production, nuclear science and technology research and applications

          This application call is only open to nationals of the following IAEA Member States:
          Australia; Brunei Darussalam; Cambodia; Cook Islands; Fiji; Indonesia; Lao People’s Democratic Republic; Malaysia; Marshall Islands; Mauritius; New Zealand; Palau; Papua New Guinea; Philippines; Samoa; Seychelles; Singapore; Thailand; Tonga; Vanuatu; Viet Nam

          The next Lise Meitner Programme (LMP) visit will take place over a two-week period in Australia and is open to women professionals currently working in the nuclear sector. Interested applicants must have between three to ten years of professional experience or be nearing the completion of their PhD programme with some prior work experience. 

          During the visit, the participants will gain hands-on experience in nuclear medicine production, nuclear science and technology research and applications at the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation (ANSTO) in Sydney, Australia. The visit will highlight how nuclear science and technology contributes to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and will provide tools to effectively communicate these benefits to a wider audience. Participants will also explore how these cutting-edge applications can be adapted and enhanced in their own country, with a focus on human health, environment, agriculture, ocean health and industrial development.

          Application submission does not guarantee a place in the visiting professional programme.

          Who can apply

          • Women professionals with a nuclear-related background relevant to the focus area of the visits; examples can be found here
          • Currently employed with between 3-10 years of relevant work experience in a nuclear related field; OR final year PhD students in the nuclear field with relevant prior work experience
          • Completed relevant bachelor's degree, master's degree or PhD
          • Applicants must be nationals of one of the eligible IAEA Member States listed above.

          All applicants are required to

          • Complete the online application form
          • Provide the requested documents as noted in the application form:
            • Copy of passport
            • Diplomas of relevant education (Bachelor’s, Master’s and/or PhD)

          For applicants who are employed, additional required documents:

          • Two-page summary of current work tasks/projects
          • Completed employer’s release and recommendation form sent directly to the LMP Team by the employer (download the form here)

          For applicants in their last year of PhD studies, additional required documents:

          • Latest published relevant journal publication(s) and/or brief description of PhD thesis (max 2000 words) signed by the PhD advisor
          • Completed PhD advisor release and recommendation form sent directly to LMP Team by the PhD Advisor (download form)

          Applicants can apply in their own capacity, or they can be nominated by their national authorities, in which case, the Participation Form should be completed by the participant and sent to the competent national authority for transmission to the IAEA. Please refer to additional instructions in the Form. All applicants are reviewed against the IAEA LMP established selection criteria. The support by national authorities is not mandatory and it does not guarantee participation in LMP.

          Selection

          Applicants can only attend one LMP professional visit, if selected. Those who have previously participated in the LMP will not be considered.

          Selected participants will be contacted by the IAEA well in advance, and well before the start of the visit to allow for planning. They will be provided with all necessary information pertaining to their participation in the IAEA Lise Meitner Programme.
