Development and Use of Operational Intervention Levels for Reactor Emergencies

This training course contributes to the harmonization of national criteria for implementing protective actions and other response actions, by highlighting the role of Operational Intervention Levels (OILs) in ?protection strategies for nuclear and radiological emergencies. It is based on the IAEA publication Operational Intervention Levels for Reactor Emergencies and Methodology for Their Derivation (EPR-NPP-OILs, 2017).

The course targets professionals involved in the development of national criteria for the implementation of protective actions and other response actions during a nuclear or radiological emergency.

This four-day course covers topics including: practical considerations for the use of OILs during emergency response; the methodology for deriving default OIL values; general considerations concerning the revision of default OIL values to account for different underlying assumptions or methodological approaches, and a review of the data used to calculate IAEA’s default OIL values.
