Press Arrangements for the IAEA Board of Governors Meeting
A meeting of the IAEA Board of Governors will be held on Wednesday, April 27 at 3.00 p.m. in the IAEA Boardroom C04, at the Vienna International Centre.
The meeting, which was not previously scheduled, was requested by the Group of 77 and China in a letter from the Chairman of the Group on March 31 to the Chair of the Board to discuss the appointment of the Director General. The meeting is closed to the press.

Progress in the last three years towards improved global nuclear power plant safety and the challenges that lie ahead will be discussed at a final press conference of the Third Review Meeting of the Convention on Nuclear Safety on Friday, April 22 at 12.30 p.m. at the Vienna International Centre, Press Briefing Room C03.
The President of the meeting, Linda Keen, head of the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission, and States′ representatives from France, Canada, Germany, Switzerland and Austria will take part.

A press conference will be held on Monday, April 11, at 12.00 noon at the Vienna International Centre, Press Briefing Room C03, following the opening of the Third Review Meeting of the Convention on Nuclear Safety, to outline how the global treaty is maintaining nuclear power plant safety.
The 10 year old Convention is the international treaty that commits participating States to maintain a high level of safety in the operation and regulation of nuclear power plants. Parties to the Convention meet every three years to peer review their national nuclear safety programmes.

A meeting of the IAEA Board of Governors will commence on Monday, February 28, 2005, at 10.30 a.m. and is expected to last at least three days. IAEA Director General Mohamed ElBaradei will open the meeting with an overview statement. The Board will discuss, among other issues, measures to strengthen international co-operation in nuclear, radiation and transport safety and waste management as well as the IAEA's activities related to nuclear science, technology and applications.

The findings of an IAEA international group of experts examining multilateral approaches to better control sensitive parts of the nuclear fuel cycle will be made public at a press briefing, tomorrow, Tuesday 22 February 2005, at 15:00 at the Vienna International Centre, Press Briefing Room C03.
Bruno Pellaud, chairman of the group, whose 26 members from the same number of States have held four week long meetings since the group was convened in August, 2004, will introduce the report and be available to take questions.

Ministers from 29 countries have confirmed they will attend a two day conference in Paris, March 21-22, "Nuclear Power for the 21st Century", organised by the International Atomic Energy Agency and hosted by the Government of France in cooperation with the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and the OECD Nuclear Energy Agency (NEA).

The process of appointing the IAEA Director General for four years beginning 1 December 2005 is under way. IAEA Chief Mohamed ElBaradei′s term of office expires on 30 November 2005. Dr ElBaradei has served as Director General since 1997 and has stated his availability for a third term of office.

On Iran I am going to report that we have completed our work with regard to the verification of the suspension with one exception, and that is the request by Iran to exempt 20 centrifuges for R&D without using nuclear materials.

A meeting of the IAEA Board of Governors will commence on Thursday, 25 November, 2004 at 10.30 and is expected to last at least two days. The Board will discuss, among other issues, the report of the Technical Assistance and Cooperation Committee, which will be meeting from 22 - 24 November 2004, and the 2005 edition of the Agency′s regulations for the safe transport of radioactive material.
