The scope of the NUclear Security Assessment Methodologies (NUSAM) project is to assess the performance of the?Physical Protection systems of nuclear fuel cycle facilities, radioactive sources and associated facilities and transport of nuclear and other radioactive material, in particular the assessment of security systems of nuclear power plants.?The NUSAM project will develop nuclear security assessment methodologies in consistent with IAEA nuclear security series No. 13, Nuclear Security?recommendations on Physical Protection of Nuclear material and Nuclear Facilities?and No14, Nuclear Security Recommendations on radioactive Material and associated facilities.
Objectives
The primary objective of the NUSAM project is to provide a risk-informed, quantitative performance-based methodological framework for assessing the security of facilities and materials in a systematic, structured, comprehensive and appropriately transparent manner. ?A secondary objective is to provide an environment for the sharing and transfer of knowledge and experience, and to provide the base for guidance on, and practical examples of good practices in the quantitative nuclear security assessment of facilities and materials.
Specific Objectives
Enhance and develop new approaches and tools for security assessment
Provide a critical evaluation of the existing approaches and tools used in Security assessment of facilities and materials
Build confidence in the use of quantitative assessment methods for security assessment of facilities and materials
