This expert panel organized by Germany will address the challenges of safeguarding nuclear material and facilities in crisis situations. It will draw lessons from previous experiences on implementing safeguards under crisis conditions and explore interdisciplinary research, such as by the VeSPoTec (Verification in a complex and unpredictable world: social, political, and technical processes) consortium. This research identifies vulnerabilities of safeguards given specific crisis scenarios and proposes areas for further strengthening safeguards effectiveness and resilience. This event is organized by Germany.
