          Introduction

          The IAEA has established information exchange systems that support Member States in addressing their needs in the areas of safety, security and safeguards. Among them, the (USIE) and the “Incident and Tra?cking Database” (ITDB).

          USIE is a secure website maintained by the IAEA to enable countries to exchange urgent notifications and follow-up information during nuclear or radiological incidents and emergencies irrespective of their cause. This system also allows them to request information or international assistance.

          ITDB is the IAEA’s secure information exchange mechanism on incidents of illicit tra?cking and other unauthorized activities and events involving nuclear and other radioactive material outside of regulatory control.

          USIE and ITDB are complementary and mutually non-exclusive information exchange systems, which were established to address different purposes.

          Objectives

          The objectives of this webinar are to:

          • outline the scope and purpose of USIE and ITDB;
          • enhance the audience’s awareness and understanding of the similarities and differences of USIE and ITDB;
          • clarify (a) the circumstances in which incidents involving nuclear and other radioactive materials shall be reported to either USIE or ITDB or to both systems and (b) the expected reporting timeframes and outcomes associated with their respective information exchange processes.
