Webinar on Background and Use of Radiological Health Hazards Charts of EPR-NPP PPA (2013)
Description
IAEA Safety Standards Series Nos. GSR Part 7, “Preparedness and Response for a Nuclear or Radiological Emergency”, GSG-14, “Arrangements for Public Communication in Preparedness and Response for a Nuclear or Radiological Emergency” and the EPR Series publication “Actions to Protect the Public in an Emergency due to Severe Conditions at a Light Water Reactor” (EPR-NPP Public Protective Actions 2013) —provide guidance on communicating with the public during a nuclear emergency at a nuclear power plant. GSG-14 provides a generic template for developing health hazard charts that can be used by decision-makers and communicators to relate radiological health risk to the public.
EPR-NPP Public Protective Actions 2013 includes radiological health hazard charts specific to light water reactor emergencies based upon the Safety Standards in order to provide those persons who are responsible for making and communicating decisions in the event of an emergency at a light water reactor with a clear and easily understood method to relate the risks posed by the emergency to the public.
The webinar will provide an overview of the radiological health hazard charts included in EPR-NPP Public Protective Actions for use during an emergency at nuclear power plant and will describe, at a high level, their intended use and basis in the Safety Standards. The webinar is aimed at relevant staff from NPP operating organizations at various levels, regulatory bodies of NPPs, off-site response organizations, staff of relevant international organizations, specialists from relevant research organizations and other interested parties.
