          Background

The importance of international peer review to the continuous improvement of regulatory effectiveness, and the opportunity it provides to share knowledge and experience of regulatory issues and good practices, has been widely acknowledged.

The Integrated Regulatory Review Service (IRRS) offers States an integrated approach to access, through peer review, the status of their national framework for safety against IAEA safety standards.

The IRRS team of reviewers evaluate the host State’s governmental, legal, and regulatory framework and compile their findings in the mission report. The report describes the effectiveness of the regulatory oversight, includes recommendations and suggestions for further improvement, and notes good practices that can be adapted for use elsewhere to strengthen safety. Consideration of both technical and policy matters provides opportunities for improvements to regulatory infrastructure that might be shared with other Member States.?

The IRRS helps the host States to strengthen and enhance the effectiveness of their regulatory infrastructure for nuclear, radiation, radioactive waste, and transport safety.

          Objectives

The objective of this webinar is to give insight in the objectives, benefits and process of the IRRS missions, and to provide feedback from Member States having hosted an IRRS mission and highlight expectations from Member States awaiting to host one.

It will be of interest to governments, regulatory bodies, organizations and other parties which may be involved in IRRS missions.?
