          Introduction

Trade in counterfeit and pirated goods amounted to up to 2.5% of world trade in 2019. These goods, known as Counterfeit, Fraudulent and Suspect Items (CFSI), do not undergo the same rigorous quality assurance procedures as legitimate items, and deviate from prescribed specifications. Within the nuclear supply chain, CFSI can diminish the integrity of equipment, systems, structures, components or devices that contribute to nuclear safety and/or nuclear security. The inadvertent introduction or malicious insertion of CFSI within the nuclear security supply chain could lead to the occurrence of a nuclear security event, the possibility of which may justify greater attention to developing measures to address this vulnerability.

This webinar will discuss the current trends in CFSI as they relate to the nuclear security supply chain, profile the producers of these items, and provide insight from national perspectives on how to address the risks posed by CFSI. The information discussed will be used to identify topics and interested participants for a Coordinated Research Project (CRP) and/or Technical Meeting on addressing the nuclear security implications of CFSI.

This webinar will be offered on Tuesday, 22 March 2022 and on Wednesday, 23 March 2022. The content will be the same both days, with the exception that the webinar on the 23rd of March will be translated into Spanish.

          Objectives

The objective of this webinar is to raise awareness of CFSI and the potential implications on nuclear security, while also receiving input about the interest of the audience in participating in further research and discussion.
