Unlocking Food Security and Sustainable Development through Nuclear Science
Secretariat Side Events
The side event will emphasize the holistic and multidisciplinary nature of the Atoms4Food initiative. The event will include in its first part an announcement by the IAEA Director General and the President of Kenya (announcement to be decided). A high-level panel discussion will follow, in principle including representatives from countries committed to Atoms4Food. The discussion is expected to prominently showcase how Atoms4Food supports Member States with research and development, capacity building, and technology transfer to strengthen and transform their agrifood systems. It will also showcase how nuclear techniques are applied to develop improved crop varieties, enhance animal productivity, control insect pests and animal diseases, and establish robust food safety mechanisms, underscoring the precision and unique advantages of these techniques. Additionally, the event aims to articulate strategic pathways for building partnerships and mobilizing resources, including actively engaging national governments, academia, research institutions, civil society organizations, and the private sector, thereby integrating diverse perspectives and innovative solutions to achieve a sustained impact and reach of the Atoms4Food initiative.
The event will be held on Monday, 15 September 2025, from 1.30 p.m. to 2.30 p.m. in a room to be confirmed.
