Awaza Programme of Action: Atoms for LLDCS (Landlocked Developing Countries)
Member States Side Events
The Third United Nations Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDC3), held in Avaza, Turkmenistan, culminated in the adoption of the Awaza Programme of Action (2024–2034)–a renewed global commitment to support the 32 LLDCs in overcoming structural challenges and accelerating sustainable development.
The Awaza Programme of Action identifies Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI) as a cross-cutting enabler in key priority areas such as economic transformation, trade facilitation, climate resilience, connectivity, and health systems strengthening.
In this context, nuclear science and technology–supported by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)–offer LLDCsta ngible tools to meet these priorities. From boosting agricultural productivity and managing scarce water resources to expanding diagnostic healthcare and building climate resilience, nuclear applications are aligned with multiple pillars of the APoA. This side event will demonstrate how nuclear science, technology, and innovation contribute directly to the implementation of the Awaza Programme of Action, highlights concrete IAEA technical cooperation projects that align with LLDC priorities and encourage partnerships and knowledge exchange to support LLDCs in harnessing nuclear technology for sustainable development. This event is organized by Turkmenistan.
This event will be held on Wednesday, 17 September 2025, from 12.30 p.m. to 1.30 p.m. in Conference Room CR4, C Building, seventh floor.
