It takes account of recently gained knowledge and experience of seismic hazards in Member States, presents recent findings associated with strong motion recordings from seismically active and well instrumented areas such as Japan and California in the USA, includes experience gained from significant recent earthquakes and provides clear guidance for existing as well as new build projects. It also addresses the need to expand the evaluation of seismic hazards to nuclear installations other than nuclear power plants.
