          Nuclear Safety and Security Side Events at the 69th IAEA General Conference

          The IAEA Department of Nuclear Safety and Security will host six side events and three tours, during the?69th IAEA General Conference,?to be held in Vienna from 15 to 19 September 2025.

          Patient Radiation Doses and Tissue Reactions from Fluoroscopically Guided Interventional Procedures – Results from the IAEA Coordinated International Study

          Monday,?15 September 2025, from 12:00 to 13:00 at ESPACE M0E,?M Building, ground floor.

          The event will share results from the IAEA coordinated international study on the frequency of patients experiencing tissue reactions during various fluoroscopically guided interventional (FGI) procedures worldwide. Information will be provided about the new recommendations that aim to enhance patient radiation protection in these types of procedures.

          30 years of the IAEA’s Incident and Trafficking Database (ITDB)

          ?Tuesday,?16 September 2025, from 11:30 to 12:30 at ESPACE M0E, M Building, ground floor.

          This event provides a unique opportunity to celebrate the ITDB’s three decades of contribution to global nuclear security.?The event will feature a panel discussion with key stakeholders to reflect on the evolution of the ITDB and major milestones in facilitating information sharing and international cooperation. Attendees will gain valuable insights into the past, present and future of the ITDB.

          Regulatory Cooperation Forum Plenary Meeting ?

          Tuesday,?16 September 2025 from 10.00 to 13:00. in Conference Room CR3, C Building, seventh floor.

          The Plenary Meeting of the Regulatory Cooperation Forum (RCF) will focus on providing information on updated activities undertaken by the RCF to further support enhancing regulatory infrastructure development and assisting embarking countries who are considering various technological options, such as small modular reactors.

          At this event, there will be presentations of various experiences of regulatory infrastructure development in embarking countries. These have been collated into a series of topical publications under the IAEA ‘Generic Roadmap to Develop Infrastructure for Nuclear Safety of the First Nuclear Reactor’ project.

          Eleventh Plenary Meeting of the Global Nuclear Safety and Security Network (GNSSN)

          Wednesday, 17 September 2025, from 10:00. to 12:00 noon in Conference Room CR4, C Building, seventh floor.

          This event will provide a forum for IAEA member countries to discuss challenges related to the development of a sustainable radiation and nuclear safety infrastructure in line with the IAEA safety standards and international good practices. At the event, the Secretariat will provide updates on the efforts to establish and enhance cooperation with other forums and networks. ???

          Nuclear On-The-Go: Safety of Transportable Nuclear Power Plants

          Thursday,?18 September 2025, from 15:30 to 17:00 in Conference Room M5, M Building, ground floor.

          This event will spotlight the IAEA's recent efforts to enhance safety for transportable nuclear power plants (TNPPs). It will provide an overview of current safety approaches and practices used by various stakeholders in member countries, such as designers and regulators, and outline future plans for IAEA activities in this field. The event will offer a forum to discuss the challenges and needs related to TNPP safety in member countries.

          Senior Safety and Security Regulators’ Meeting

          Thursday,?18 September 2025, from 9:00 to 18:00 in Board Room D, C Building, fourth floor.

          Heads of regulatory bodies and other senior regulatory officials in the fields of nuclear, radiation, transport and radioactive waste safety and nuclear security will discuss regulatory challenges and share good practices. The meeting also focuses on IAEA Secretariat initiatives to support regulatory bodies.

          Tours

          Tour of the Radiation Safety Technical Services Laboratory

          This tour will showcase the Radiation Safety Technical Services Laboratory, which provides annual monitoring services for external and internal radiation exposure for 3000 occupationally exposed workers. These services are critical to IAEA activities globally. Support services also include training, consultation and the loan of survey equipment.

          Tours will be offered on?Tuesday 16,?Wednesday?17 and?Thursday?18 September 2025. from 14:30 to 15:45.

          Guided Tour of the Nuclear Security Training and Demonstration Centre

          This event will involve a guided tour of the Nuclear Security Training and Demonstration Centre (NSTDC) at the IAEA Seibersdorf Laboratories on Thursday, 18 September 2025, from 14:00 to 17:00.

          Advance registration is required by sending an?email?stating your first and last name, affiliation, and delegation.

          The assembly point is the Information Desk at the entrance to the M Building, from where participants will be picked up on the day of the tour at 13:45.

          Lunchtime Tour of the Incident and Emergency Centre

          The Incident and Emergency Centre (IEC) is the global focal point for international preparedness for and response to nuclear or radiological emergencies. The tour will provide participants with an overview of the IEC’s response roles and emergency preparedness and response tools.

          Tours will be offered on?Tuesday?16,?Wednesday?17 and?Thursday?18 September from 13:00 to 14:00. The planned duration of each tour is one hour.

The assembly point is the Information Desk at the entrance to the M building from where participants will be picked up on the day of the tour at 12:50.
