Background
Project RER/9/101 aims at building competence in Member States in radiation protection and in the safety of radiation sources. This is achieved mainly through specific training mechanisms developed to ensure that a suitable number of qualified experts and trainers is available for establishing, expanding and sustaining national radiation protection infrastructures. For instance, the "Postgraduate Educational Course in Radiation Protection and the Safety of Radiation Sources" aims to provide an initial basic professional training in radiation protection and safety for young professionals who will become trainers in later.
Purpose
The purpose of the workshop was to meet the needs of professionals at graduate level, or the equivalent, for initial training to acquire a sound basis in radiation protection and the safety of radiation sources.
Meeting Activities & Outcomes
The 18-week "Postgraduate Educational Course on Radiation Protection and the Safety of Radiation Sources" (PGEC), which was held in Aghia Paraskevi, Greece, with IAEA support under the TC Regional project RER/9/101-Building Competence through Education and Training in Support of Radiation Protection Infrastructure, was successfully brought to a conclusion on 30 March 2012. The course offered 14 young professionals from the Europe Region the unique opportunity of receiving high-quality, hands-on training in the field of radiation protection and safety of radiation sources.
