In his opening statement, IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano noted that the Agency was working closely with 33 countries that are considering, planning or starting nuclear power programmes and that the latest IAEA projections show continued growth in the use of nuclear power by 2030, although growth is likely to be slower than was expected before the Fukushima Daiichi accident of 2011.
