On 4-5 June, 2007 the IAEA will be hosting a high-level meeting on Science & Technology and Nuclear Research in the 21st Century: Strategies for Research Institutes in a Changing Paradigm of Science and Technology Policy and Funding at the Austria Center, Vienna, Austria.

The meeting will examine changes in science and technology and how they affect the nuclear research business, especially in central and eastern Europe. There will be approximatly 80 participants including high-level policymakers (several Ministers and Deputy Ministers of Science), as well as managers of research institutes from central and eastern Europe.
The Keynote speaker for the Meeting is Esko Aho, former Prime Minister of Finland, who also served as the Chairman of the EU Working Group on Innovation, which published Creating an Innovative Europe in 2006. Mr. Aho will provide insights from his experience in leading Finland toward a knowledge-based economy.
The meeting will offer an opportunity to interact with other international organizations, such as the OECD, the World Bank, WIPO (World Intellectual Property Organization) and the European Commission.
