An UNMOVIC missile team supervised the destruction of six more Al Samoud 2 missiles, bringing the total number of missiles destroyed in the first three days to 16. Two warheads were also destroyed. Another missile team supervised the start of the destruction of a second casting chamber as well as the remaining work on the first casting chamber. The first casting chamber is now considered completely destroyed. The second casting chamber is to be completely destroyed by tomorrow.
UNMOVIC conducted a private interview with an Iraqi scientist in the afternoon.
An UNMOVIC chemical team returned to the Al Muthanna site and supervised the destruction of 14 empty 155mm artillery shells, ten of which had contained mustard. The mustard, which had been taken out of these shells, is being neutralized. Another chemical team inspected one of the plants at the National Chemical Plastic Industries in Baghdad. The facility produces plasticizer to be used as a raw material in plastic granule and artificial leather production.
An UNMOVIC biological team returned to the Al Aziziyah Airfield and Firing Range and took additional samples from the previously recovered R-400 bombs, which, Iraq had declared, had been filled with biological agents. The team also verified additional fragments recovered by Iraq. Another biological team inspected the headquarters of the Mesopotamia State Company for Seeds in Baghdad. A third biological team inspected the Department of Biology of the College of Science at Mosul University.
An UNMOVIC multidisciplinary team conducted yesterday a night inspection of the Al Furat State Company located 80km south of Baghdad. This is a chemical factory with production lines working in shifts. Today, a multidisciplinary team inspected a storage facility for anti-aircraft missile parts some 60km outside Baghdad. A Mosul-based multidisciplinary team inspected a construction area related to spray irrigation systems.
An IAEA team inspected a State-owned trading company in the Sadoon district of Baghdad. A second IAEA team inspected a private trading company in the Mansoor district. A third team performed a car-borne radiation survey north of Baghdad, near the town of Tarmya.
A technical meeting was held between UNMOVIC and Iraqi officials at the Iraqi Foreign Ministry last evening regarding the Iraqi proposals for the quantitative verification of VX and anthrax that Iraq declared it had unilaterally destroyed at specific locations. Iraq indicated that it would soon provide UNMOVIC with their proposed approaches.
