Experts from around the world are meeting at the IAEA this week for an international symposium on nuclear safeguards, verification, and security. A special session on 2 November focuses on the issue of combating nuclear terrorism.
The Special Session, which will bring together experts on nuclear terrorism from around the world, will deal with the following issues:
- The Psychology of terrorism
- Intelligence, police and border protection
- Guarding nuclear reactors and material from terrorists and thieves
- The threat of nuclear terrorism: Nuclear weapons or other nuclear explosive devices
- The threat of nuclear terrorism: Intentional dispersal of radioactive material - Sabotage of fixed installations or transport systems
- The Legal Framework: Treaties and Conventions, Laws, Regulations and Codes of Practice
- IAEA Nuclear Security and Safety Programmes
The meeting, which is open to the press, will be held in the IAEA Boardroom, 4th floor C Building. Media, particularly television crews, wishing to attend are requested to fill out the registration form on the IAEA website: isis_signup.shtml and return it by e-mail or fax. Onsite registration for journalists with valid press identification is also possible.
A press conference by IAEA Director General ElBaradei will be held at 10:30 in the press briefing room (C0453) across from the Boardroom.
