Yukiya Amano, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, will conduct a briefing for journalists at 14:30 CET on Monday, 7 June 2010, in the Press Room of the M-Building, in the Vienna International Centre (VIC).
The 30-minute briefing will follow the opening session of the Agency′s Board of Governors meeting, which is not open to journalists. Director General Amano′s introductory statement at that meeting will be released to journalists after delivery and posted on the IAEA website the same day. No special accreditation is needed for the press briefing beyond the requisite credentials for covering the Board meeting. (See Media Advisory 2010/07).
The Board is scheduled to discuss reports by the Director General on the Implementation of the NPT Safeguards Agreement and Relevant Provisions of Security Council Resolutions 1737 (2006), 1747 (2007), 1803 (2008) and 1835 (2008) in the Islamic Republic of Iran, and on the Implementation of the NPT Safeguards Agreement in the Syrian Arab Republic.
In addition, Board discussions are expected on issues related to Israeli nuclear capabilities, IAEA technical cooperation programmes and the safe disposal of radioactive waste.
