International Conference on Topical Issues in Nuclear Installation Safety: Learning from the Past to Accelerate the Future

          29 June–3 July 2026, Vienna, Austria

International Conference on Topical Issues in Nuclear Installation Safety 2026

          Background

Since 1998, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has organized the International Conference on Topical Issues in Nuclear Installation Safety (TIC). These conferences provide a platform for discussing current practices and challenges in nuclear installation safety, fostering collaboration among regulators, plant designers, operators, and other stakeholders.

Over the years, TIC conferences have evolved to address pressing issues, from continuous safety improvement to the safety of advanced nuclear power plants (NPPs). Recent conferences have focused on the safety of advanced reactor designs, including small modular reactors (SMRs) and next-generation NPPs. TIC2022 highlighted the importance of strengthening the safety of innovative reactor designs, aligning with the growing interest in advanced reactors.

Insights from past conferences have shaped the IAEA's efforts to promote and enhance nuclear safety standards globally. The upcoming TIC conference, titled "International Conference on Topical Issues in Nuclear Installation Safety: Learning from the Past to Accelerate the Future," will be held in Vienna from 29 June to 3 July 2026. This event aims to leverage past lessons to drive future advancements in nuclear installation safety for both operating and new types of designs.

          Target Audience

Participation in the Conference is solicited from nuclear safety regulators, nuclear safety professionals from plant designers and operators, technical support organizations, and other stakeholders from Member States and international organizations.

The Conference foresees the participation of the invited speakers to provide keynote presentations and/or take part in the panel discussions.

          Greening

To demonstrate its commitment to sustainability, the IAEA will organize this conference as a 'green meeting' according to the guidelines of the Austrian Ecolabel.

There will be a focus on the areas of paper smart documentation, waste reduction and recycling, and environmentally friendly catering.

          Conference App

The IAEA Conferences and Meetings App provides a one-stop access to information on the Conference, exhibitions and scheduled side events. The app also allows users to put together their own personalized schedule of events. Via this app participants will be able to view contributed papers and the latest conference programme, message other participants, and view PowerPoint presentations released after the event. Participants will receive an email inviting them to register for the app approximately one week before the conference.
