Sixth Review Meeting of the Contracting Parties to the Joint Convention on the Safety of Spent Fuel Management and on the Safety of Radioactive Waste Management (Joint Convention)

The Joint Convention was adopted on 5 September 1997 by a Diplomatic Conference convened by the International Atomic Energy Agency.

The Sixth Review Meeting of the Contracting Parties pursuant to Article 30 of the Joint Convention was held at the IAEA Headquarters in Vienna, Austria, from 21 May to 1 June 2018.

Sixty-nine Contracting Parties participated in the Review Meeting, including eight Contracting Parties that attended for the first time: Botswana, Cuba, Jordan, Kyrgyzstan, Mexico, Peru, Serbia and Uzbekistan. More than 850 delegates registered and took part in what was a very productive and engaging review process. They presented, discussed and reviewed National Reports, which address measures taken by Contracting Parties to implement their obligations under the Joint Convention.
