Technical Meeting on Analytical Tools and Methods in Pressurized Heavy Water Reactor Analysis
EVT2404343
Pressurized Heavy Water Reactors (PHWRs) are currently inoperation across six Member States (MSs). As in all MSs, the demand forrigorous and accurate safety assessments has grown significantly driven by theneed to comply with more stringent requirements, addressing emerging issues anddemonstrating sufficient margins throughout the life of the plants. Combinedwith increased computer capabilities, this has led to the development andadoption of sophisticated analytical tools, methods, and integrated simulationplatforms for PHWR analysis.
The IAEA has actively supported PHWR MSs in enhancingcomputational tools and methods while promoting information exchange on thetopic through a series of meetings, technical publications, and collaborativeresearch projects and benchmarks. In line with this objective, the IAEA isorganizing a technical meeting to share experience and transfer knowledge onthe advances and future trends in Analytical Tools and Methods for PHWRanalysis, and to prepare an IAEA publication on the topic.
The meeting addresses the advances in analytical tools andmethods for design, operation and safety analysis of PHWR for all plant states.More specifically, the topics planned to be covered in the meeting include:
? Advances in computational tools and integrated simulationplatforms for PHWRs.
? Usage of high-fidelity tools, such as Computational FluidDynamics (CFD).
? Applications of artificial intelligence and machinelearning.
? Novel methodologies and approaches, such as ROPapproaches, and the application of the LBB concept and pipe break openingcharacteristics.
? Progress in experiments, validation, uncertaintyquantification and benchmarks.
All persons wishing to participate in the event have to bedesignated by an IAEA Member State or should be members of organizations thathave been invited to attend. In order to be designated by an IAEA Member Stateor invited organization, participants are requested to submit their applicationvia the InTouch+ platform (https://intouchplus.iaea.org)to the competent national authority (Ministry of Foreign Affairs, PermanentMission to the IAEA or National Atomic Energy Authority) or organization foronward transmission to the IAEA by 15 September 2025, following theregistration procedure in InTouch+.
