          Training Workshop on Techniques and Technologies for Characterization to Support Environmental Remediation

          4 – 8 Aug 2025
          Vienna, Austria
          Event code: EVT2404134

          The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) will conduct a Training Workshop on Techniques and Technologies for Characterization to Support Environmental Remediation at the Vienna International Centre, Vienna, Austria, from 4 to 8 August 2025.

          Please note that virtual attendance is not available.

          Contaminated sites requiring environmental remediation are present worldwide. Effective remediation and subsequent reuse rely on the comprehensive characterization of these sites before, during, and after site activities.

          The characterization of contaminated land is inherently multidisciplinary, requiring a broad range of expertise and technical skills. It involves systematic planning, the application of in situ technologies, physical sample collection with laboratory analyses, and robust data assessment and visualization.

          This introductory training workshop is designed for individuals involved in the radiological characterization and remediation of radioactively contaminated land. It is particularly suited for early-career practitioners, scientists, technicians, and trainees pursuing a career in radioactive contaminated land management.

          The following topics will be included in the programme:

          • Creating and using a conceptual site model;
          • Systematic planning for environmental characterization;
          • Use of radiological survey techniques;
          • Intrusive site investigation techniques;
          • Data management and verification; and
          • Data analysis and visualisation.

          Due to constraints, a maximum of 35 participants will be selected to attend the training workshop.

          Participants will be selected based on their personal abstract. The personal abstract should articulate why you are a suitable candidate and how this training course will contribute to your professional growth.

          The designation deadline is 30 May 2025.

          Further information can be found in the Information Sheet.
