Fourth Research Coordination Meeting on INTACT Food

          4 – 8 Nov 2024
          Virtual component
          , Austria
          Event code: EVT2304366

https://nucleus.iaea.org/sites/nafa-projects/crp-D52042Numerous foods are sold at premium prices because of 'added-value' labelling claims related to specific production methods, unique characteristics and origins. Origin-linked products can be part of a virtuous circle of sustainable quality based on the preservation of local resources and other factors described in the FAO-SINERGI guide “Linking people, places and products”.? Furthermore, these claims include agricultural, geographic, ethical and nutraceutical labelling specifications that add value to the products. In order to protect consumers from fraud, and potential unintended food safety issues, standardised analytical methods are required to confirm such claims. Several nuclear, isotopic and related techniques have proven suitable for confirming a wide range of high-value labelling claims such as Geographical Indications (PDO, PGI) free-range, organic, Halal, natural/synthetic, etc. The overall objective of this CRP is to enable developing countries to protect and promote food products with added/high-value labelling claims by development and application of nuclear, isotopic and complementary techniques. The project thereby aims to safeguard consumers and reputable producers; ensure regulatory and ethical compliance; stimulate domestic markets and reduce barriers to international trade. The 4th and final Research Coordination Meeting will be held on-line (virtually) between the 04 – 08 November 2024.? This will give the Research Contract Holders an opportunity to present and discuss their final research findings within the consortium and with the Research Agreement Holders to formulate their contributions to the final meeting report and Technical Document.? The consortium will also discuss the overall outputs and outcomes from the project, recommendations to the IAEA and look forward to possibilities for future collaboration.
