The June 1997 IAEA Bulletin edition focuses on nuclear power. Featured articles report on the global challenges facing nuclear power development and its consequent strategies; on the initiatives for progress of nuclear power plant performance; and on the global development of advanced nuclear power plants. Applications of nuclear energy are also examined, including the supply of heat for homes and industries, and seawater desalination. Future nuclear energy systems are expected to burn radioactive waste. An article comparatively examines the greenhouse gas emissions of nuclear power and of fossil fuel-generated electricity. This edition also includes an issue of Inside Technical Co-operation, which covers several of the current IAEA?s Technical Cooperation projects.
