The IAEA Low Enriched Uranium Bank: Assurance of Supply Mechanism of Last Resort and a Reserve of LEU Available for Eligible Member States

This event will present the establishment and operation of the IAEA Low Enriched Uranium (LEU) Bank (a physical stock of 90 metric tons of LEU hexafluoride suitable for making fuel for a typical light water reactor), located in Kazakhstan and owned and controlled by the IAEA, as part of global efforts to supply nuclear fuel to countries in the event of open market disruption. Fully funded by voluntary contributions, the LEU Bank has been operational since October 2019. The event will also highlight the recertification of LEU cylinders. This event is organized by Kazakhstan.
