Regulatory Activities Section: Capacity Building Activities

?The Regulatory Activities Section provides support to Member States in building and sustaining capacity in nuclear safety.

Building and sustaining capacity

• Activities in building and sustaining capacity in nuclear safety are implemented through and overseen by theIAEA Steering Committee on Regulatory Capacity Building and Knowledge Management.
• ?The Integrated Regulatory Review Service (IRRS) missions to Member States include a review area of building and sustaining capacity in nuclear safety at the regulatory body, authorized parties and at the national level.
• ?Upon request by Member States, specialized expert missions to Member States can be arranged on building and sustaining capacity in nuclear safety or on any of the four pillars education and training, human resource development, knowledge management and knowledge networks.?

Education and training

• Basic Professional Training Course in Nuclear Safety
• IAEA Training Course Series publication: Regulatory Control of Nuclear Power Plants (NPPs)
• ?The Exemplary Workshop Material development site (login required) features a number of model training workshops for regulatory bodies

Human resource development

• The IAEA-developed Systematic Assessment of Regulatory Competence Needs (SARCoN) methodology and software tool support Member States’ work to ensure regulatory competence in line with the IAEA safety standards.

Knowledge management

• Upon request by Member States, national or regional workshops on nuclear safety knowledge management can be arranged.

Knowledge networks

• The International Regulatory Network (RegNet) is a portal for web-based international cooperation among nuclear safety and security regulators
• As part of RegNet, the Regulatory Cooperation Forum (RCF) promotes collaboration and cooperation among Member States for regulatory infrastructure development
