Resource Mobilization and the Nuclear Security Fund

The Nuclear Security Fund (NSF), established in 2002, supports the IAEA’s nuclear security programme through extrabudgetary voluntary contributions. Extrabudgetary contributions are vital and enable the IAEA to implement its nuclear security activities and to provide, upon request, assistance to Member States, by ensuring appropriate technical, human and financial resources. The resource requirements for the implementation of the IAEA’s nuclear security programme outlined in the Nuclear Security Plans depend on the number and complexity of assistance requests received by Member States. |

Their invaluable support is instrumental to the success of the IAEA’s nuclear security programme and is used to respond to Member States nuclear security needs. The IAEA is committed to utilizing NSF contributions in a prudent manner in line with the principles of the results based management.
Resource mobilization is an integral part of the Agency’s results based management, which takes into consideration the planning, delivery and assessment of nuclear security programmatic activities designed to benefit the greatest number of Member States.
To ensure visibility and transparency, the IAEA holds regularly NSF donor coordination meetings, develops individual donor reports and maintains donor-specific NSF dashboards.
The longstanding partnership with NSF contributors has resulted in impressive results and success stories, like the construction and operation of the IAEA Nuclear Security Training and Demonstration Centre (NSTDC).
