          Description

International decarbonization goals are clashing with national measures to secure energy supply. Increased demand for fossil fuels and growing shares of variable renewable output created an already volatile global energy mix which has been further aggravated by the conflict in Ukraine. The pressure to balance a sustainable and secure energy supply has caused nuclear to gain public support. A low-carbon, reliable energy technology with the ability to dispatch that energy flexibly, nuclear enables an integrated pairing with growing shares of variable renewable energy. Yet deploying sufficient nuclear power to help meet Net Zero targets will require a rethinking of nuclear financing. The long operational life and capital-intensive nature of nuclear projects makes it unique from other energy technologies and traditional financing mechanisms.

This webinar will focus on a new era of public and private sector sustainable finance mechanisms which can increase nuclear technology access to capital and lower interest rates during the construction, commissioning, and operations phases of the nuclear power generation lifecycle. Sustainable finance may additionally help to reduce the levelized cost of nuclear investment, unlocking nuclear power for a decarbonized future.
