Media representatives accredited to the International Ministerial Conference on Nuclear Energy in the 21st Century are kindly invited to a press briefing at 17:30 on Sunday, 19 April.
IAEA Deputy Director General Mr. Yuri Sokolov, OECD NEA Deputy Director for Science and Development Mr. Thierry Dujardin, CAEA International Cooperation Department Director Mr. Huang Wei and the Conference Scientific Secretary Mr. Ian Facer will brief journalists on the issues to be discussed during the conference.
The briefing will be held in Room 305C on the 3rd level of the Beijing International Convention Center.
Journalists wishing to cover this briefing, as well as the Conference, must fill in the Media Accreditation Form on the Conference website by 16 April.
Background
Thirty energy ministers and the representatives of over 65 countries will convene in Beijing from 20 to 22 April to discuss the current status and future prospects for nuclear power. They will assess the future role of nuclear energy in meeting the world′s energy needs and present their views on the current and future role of nuclear power in the context of national energy strategies. The Conference is organized by the IAEA, and is hosted by the Government of the People′s Republic of China in co-sponsorship with the Nuclear Energy Agency (NEA) of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). IAEA Director General Mohamed ElBaradei and OECD Secretary General Angel Guria will also attend. World energy needs and resources; the development of nuclear infrastructure; innovations in nuclear technology; fuel supply and management of spent nuclear fuel; governance of the nuclear industry, and whether the current financial crisis may impact rising expectations for nuclear power′s growth will be among the topics the conference will address.
