The UAE expects demand for electricity to double by 2020. To meet this demand, the government concluded that nuclear power was the best way forward. Since starting its nuclear power programme in 2008, the UAE has been supported by the IAEA. The UAE is the first country to start the construction of its first nuclear power plant in 27 years.
