          Enabling the Future: Financing Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) for the Energy Transition

          When supported by robust policies and financial resources, nuclear energy can significantly contribute to the global energy transition, promoting equitable energy access, inclusive economic growth, and substantial emissions reduction, aligning with several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This session will explore innovative financing and risk-sharing strategies for small modular nuclear reactors (SMRs) that utilize various technologies.?

          Featuring insights from the IAEA's new report on nuclear project financing, EFIF's upcoming report on making SMRs bankable, CATF's global nuclear stocktake assessment, and NTI's work on nuclear safety, security, and non-proliferation, this session will highlight nuclear energy's alignment with SDGs 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy), 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure), and 13 (Climate Action). Experts will discuss progress in nuclear financing, public-private pathways to attract private capital, risk-sharing strategies, blended financing mechanisms, workforce development, technology down-selection, and demand aggregation.?

          This event will help advance global climate and development priorities by showcasing nuclear energy's role in achieving a sustainable and resilient energy transition. It aligns with numerous countries' commitments to the SDGs, addressing challenges and sharing insights to drive progress.?
