Experts around the world increasingly agree that clean energy transitions without nuclear power will be difficult to achieve. The First Global Stocktake agreed at COP28 calls for an acceleration of low carbon technologies including nuclear energy. However, financing nuclear power projects remains a challenge for many reasons, and novel approaches should be considered to attract investments from both governments and the private sector. This webinar will focus on recent developments in the green bond market and opportunities for financing nuclear energy projects. Over the last decade, the green bond market has grown significantly and continues to expand. In recent years, the first green bonds for nuclear projects were issued in Canada, France, Finland, Russia and USA. Additionally, issuance of other sustainable bonds, eligible for financing nuclear energy, took place. Nuclear green bonds can be considered as a positive signal to the market and investors, both in terms of nuclear energy’s low carbon credentials and as a worthy investment on the path to net zero.Join us for a webinar organized and moderated by the International Atomic Energy Agency with important insights from experts from S&P Global Ratings, Bruce Power Inc., Teollisuuden Voima Oyj and Russian Analytical Credit Rating Agency. The webinar is a part of Economics and Financing of Nuclear Power Webinar Series.
