The IAEA Board of Governors will convene a regular meeting at the Agency′s Headquarters at 10:30 on Monday, 22 September 2008, in the IAEA Boardroom, C04, in the Vienna International Centre.
Director General Mohamed ElBaradei will open the meeting with an introductory statement. His statement will be released to journalists after delivery and posted on the IAEA website the same day.
During this session of the Board the agenda includes the Agency′s Budget Update for 2009, the Report of the Commission of Eminent Persons on the Future of the Agency, as well as documents on Measures to Strengthen International Cooperation in Nuclear, Radiation and Transport Safety and Waste Management; on Nuclear Security - Measures to Protect Against Nuclear Terrorism; and on Strengthening the Agency′s Activities Related to Nuclear Science, Technology and Applications.
On nuclear verification, the Board will have before it reports by the Director General on the Application of Safeguards in the Democratic People′s Republic of Korea; on the Implementation of the NPT Safeguards Agreement and Relevant Provisions of Security Council Resolutions 1737 (2006), 1747 (2007) and 1803 (2008) in the Islamic Republic of Iran, as well as on the Implementation of the Safeguards Agreement of the Socialist People′s Libyan Arab Jamahiriya. Another agenda item will be the Application of IAEA Safeguards in the Middle East.
The meeting is closed to the press.
Photo-Op:
There will be a photo opportunity at the beginning of each morning and afternoon session. Camera crews should arrive at IAEA headquarters by 10:00 on the opening day and 09:30 on subsequent days, and proceed to the Boardroom on C04. Positions in the Boardroom must be taken by 10:15 on the opening day and 09:45 on subsequent days, or 14:45 for afternoon photo-ops.
