<p>Despite increases in female enrolment in both secondary and higher education,?women remain underrepresented in <em>science, technology, engineering and mathematics</em>, commonly referred to as “STEM” subjects.</p>
<p>We know that seeing role models in these fields can help counter stereotypes and unconscious biases about what a nuclear scientist looks like. This International Women’s Day, some IAEA colleagues with STEM backgrounds shared their stories, hoping to inspire young women to pursue STEM careers.</p>
<p>We asked them about how they got interested in their academic subjects, challenges or highlights in their careers, and what advice they would give to youth considering careers in STEM.</p>

DDG-TC's Official Visit to Argentina

<p>The IAEA Lise Meitner Library was established in 1957 to provide scientific and technical information services to IAEA staff, Member States’ permanent missions in Vienna, official IAEA meeting participants, and affiliated researchers from nuclear research institutes, governmental organizations and laboratories. In June of the same year, the IAEA Preparatory Commission recommended “to maintain a technical reference library on peaceful uses of atomic energy at the headquarters of the Agency”. The IAEA Lise Meitner Library had its genesis during the first IAEA General Conference held in October 1957 in the Vienna Konzerthaus.</p>

Securing Nuclear Material and Nuclear Facilities: Applying IAEA Guidance

The IAEA monitors nuclear material and facilities around the world to provide credible assurances that nuclear technology is only used for peaceful purposes. Over 800 people work at the IAEA Department of Safeguards, each bringing their own unique skills and background. This photo essay highlights six of our staff members: two inspectors, a systems engineer, a spectrometry specialist, a safeguards containment engineer and an IT systems analyst. These are just some of the faces of safeguards who work to make sure that the IAEA fulfils its mission.
