The European Industrial Alliance on Small Modular Reactors (SMRs)
This event will present the scope, objectives, governance, organizational structure and future activities of the European Industrial Alliance on Small Modular Reactors (SMRs), launched on 6 February 2024. The alliance aims to mobilize and establish closer cooperation among SMR stakeholders to accelerate the development, demonstration and deployment of SMRs in Europe by the early 2030s.
The event will cover, inter alia, the following points:
- The structure of the alliance in terms of technical and project working groups
- Governance, working methods and main tasks/ deliverables
- Collaboration with the European Nuclear Safety Regulators Group
- Collaboration with international initiatives in the field of SMRs (e.g. the IAEA’s Nuclear Harmonization and Standardization Initiative)

The IAEA Archives are a pillar of the IAEA’s institutional memory, spanning over 70 years and comprising over 10 000 shelf metres of hard-copy records and 10 terabytes of data. These walking tours are an opportunity to look behind the scenes to:
- Experience the size and composition of the IAEA Archives;
- Interact with some of the treasures in our holdings and be inspired by the Agency’s history;
- View the Reading Room and an archival repository, and learn about challenges in preservation and access management; and
- Hear how the Department of Management oversees the IAEA Archives.

Alpha-emitting Radiopharmaceuticals as an Effective Treatment for Metastatic Cancer - Clinical Trial and Its Applications in Society
Research and development of treatments using medical radioisotopes and nuclear medicine treatments has progressed rapidly in countries around the world in recent years especially since its efficacy in metastatic cancer has been demonstrated, and while the social implementation of nuclear medicine treatments is expected to become more widespread in the future, this workshop will summarize the challenges and current situation regarding the social implementation of nuclear medicine treatments. This workshop will focus on nuclear medicine therapy using alpha emitting radionuclides such as Ac-225 and At-211 in particular. This event is organized by Japan.

Facilitating the Early Entry into Force of the IAEA Article VI Amendment

The Incident and Emergency Centre (IEC) is the global focal point for international preparedness for and response to nuclear or radiological emergencies. The tour will provide participants with an overview of the IEC’s response roles and emergency preparedness and response tools.

The Declaration of the Arab Roadmap for Cooperation in Radiological and Nuclear Emergency Preparedness and Response
The event will showcase the joint announcement by the League of Arab States, the Arab Atomic Energy Agency (AAEA), and the IAEA of the Arab Roadmap on Emergency Preparedness and Response (EPR). Initiated by the IAEA Director General Grossi in June 2022, the roadmap aims to strengthen the capabilities of Arab countries in preparing for and responding to nuclear and radiological emergencies.?The IAEA's Incident and Emergency Centre (IEC) has supported the roadmap's development, ensuring it aligns with international standards. This initiative represents an important step in enhancing regional cooperation and emergency response, emphasizing a unified approach and ongoing monitoring in the Arab region.?This event is organized by Tunisia.

16th Plenary Meeting of Forum of Nuclear Regulatory Bodies in Africa (FNRBA)
The Plenary Meeting is the highest decision-making body of the Forum of Nuclear Regulatory Bodies in Africa (FNRBA). It is convened annually to review and approve the work plan and provide policy direction for the FNRBA. The meeting will evaluate the ongoing support activities of the FNRBA, welcome new members, review the implementation of the FNRBA’s Strategic Plan and decide on partnership proposals. This event is organized by Ghana.

Safeguards Equipment Workshops: Non-Destructive Assay, Surveillance, Unattended Monitoring, and Seals and Containment
During this tour of the safeguards equipment workshops, visitors can learn more about the verification equipment that supports the IAEA’s verification mission, including non-destructive assay equipment, surveillance and unattended monitoring capabilities, and the seals and containment applied to nuclear material.

European Technical Safety Organization Network (ETSON)
This event will briefly recall the main objectives of ETSON and its current partnership with IAEA, notably the TSO Forum.?ETSON will present its latest activities, including the work of the nuclear safety expertise and research groups, as well as initiatives aimed at the younger generation.? Moreover, ETSON will take the opportunity to highlight the progress made in the development of the TOSCA tool (Technical and Scientific Support Organizations Self Capability Assessment). XXV Meeting of the Board of ARCAL Representatives
This annual meeting of the Board of Regional Co-operation Agreement for the Promotion of Nuclear Science and Technology in Latin America and the Caribbean (ARCAL) Representatives will enable discussions to review the achievements of the agreement in 2023 and approve activities for 2024.

The IAEA Comprehensive Capacity-Building Initiative for SSACs and SRAs, commonly known as COMPASS, involves partnering with a State to help strengthen the effectiveness of their State system of accounting for and control of nuclear material (SSAC) and State or Regional Authority responsible for safeguards implementation (SRA). During its initial pilot phase, which concluded in March 2023, seven States received support from the IAEA and COMPASS’s implementing partners. Now integrated into the IAEA’s suite of safeguards assistance to States, this side event will discuss the experience gained, lessons learned, and the current work with the four States involved in the latest COMPASS cycle.

CSC Expansion: Member States’ Insight on Joining a Global Nuclear Liability Regime
This side event will highlight the value of a global regime for civil liability for nuclear damage for achieving the full potential of nuclear energy to address climate and energy security needs.? Member States will share their plans to join the Convention of Supplementary Compensation for Nuclear Damage (CSC) and the reason they are taking this important step. This event is?co-sponsored by the IAEA and the United States of America together with Argentina, Canada, Ghana, India, Japan, Lithuania, Morocco, Romania and the United Arab Emirates.

Tour of the Radiation Safety Technical Services Laboratory
This event involves a laboratory tour.?The tour will showcase the Radiation Safety Technical Services Laboratory, which provides annual monitoring services for external and internal radiation exposure for 3000 occupationally exposed workers. These services are critical to IAEA activities globally. Support services also include training, consultation and the loan of survey equipment.

Diversifying the Sources of Fuel in Water-cooled, Water-moderated Power Reactor in Europe and Ukraine: Regulatory Challenges and Lessons Learned
The purpose of this event is to present Ukraine’s experience of the regulation of nuclear and radiation safety during the loading of fuel assemblies into the water cooled, water moderated VVER-1000 and VVER-440 units, as part of Ukraine’s successful activities to establish a reliable domestic supply chain for nuclear reactors. Towards Belgium’s First Lead-Cooled Small Modular Reactor in the Frame of the EU-SMR-LFR Programme
The Belgian Nuclear Research Centre (SCK CEN) wants to build a Technology Demonstrator for lead-cooled small modular reactors (SMRs) in Mol, Belgium by 2035. The demonstrator is an essential step to pave the way for the deployment of lead-cooled SMRs. This will be developed within a European consortium with the support of several national partners. The event will demonstrate the importance of a European partnership combining research expertise with industrial know-how. This event is organized by Belgium.

IFNEC and Women in Nuclear Power Hour: Women at the Core of Nuclear Energy
This is an opportunity to hear from members of Women in Nuclear Global (WiN Global) and of the International Framework for Nuclear Energy Cooperation (IFNEC). They will discuss shared challenges and ways to increase the effectiveness of international collaboration. The session will kick off with brief opening remarks and set off a series of ‘lightning talks’, featuring women leaders who will share their personal journeys and insights in brief, impactful bursts.
